We began as an idea in the minds of two Washington State University graduate students more than a year ago and our growth is closely tied to the two world class institutions that fostered our birth (WSU and University of Idaho). With the large agricultural focus of the region, the Phoenix Conservancy has a unique perspective on conservation that combines both human and environmental needs.

While conservation has been bolstered greatly by 501(c)(3)’s in the past, the changing face of conservation requires a new generation of nonprofits to adapt to these changes. Our mission is perhaps best exemplified by the words of Bess Hudson, a long-time resident of the Palouse region of eastern Washington: “…perhaps now some happy balance could be achieved and held, and still our many purposes be fully served- for there is room and resource here for wealth of every kind.”
